A Party of One

Here I am, can’t you see?
I’m the one alone by the apple tree,
As you gather to dine at tables of eight,
There is no space, for I have no mate.

For many years I traveled like you,
The man by my side made a party of two,
The times were filled with laughter and cheers
But when he passed on, the laughs turned to tears

I am the same person with a brain and a wit,
But a party of one does not socially fit,
So I stand by this tree hoping someone will see
That I have not changed, I am still me.
